Ramalayam

Vekateshwaralayam
The natural spring formed between the hills of Easala Takkalapally village of Ramagundam mandal is a place of tourist attraction. The natural spring which is called ‘Bugga’ by the local people has a mythological importance.

There is a popular belief among the Hindus that Lord Rama while staying in the hills of this region got thirsty and couldn’t find a single drop of water anywhere here. Then Lord Hanuman, who was accompanying Lord Rama, was asked to fetch some water. He immediately installed a Shiva lingam made up of sand under a Jhamun tree (Alla Nerudu). Lord Hanuman prayed Lord Shiva to provide water. Hearing the prayers, the Lord Shiva ordered his consort Goddess Ganga to provide water to quench the thirst of Lord Rama. The goddess Ganga provided water in the form of a natural spring to quench the thirst of Lord Rama.

This temple is located at a distance of 6 KM's from local bus station. Sources to reach this place are auto rickshaws and private taxies.

In those days, if devotees who visit the Shiva Lingam to have a darshan feel thirsty they have to pray to Lord Shiva, loudly asking for provide us with some water. Then immediately water used to gush out with bubbles from the earth ..thus goes the story.

But now water comes out from the spring irrespective of the season. Around this spring a house and flight of steps were constructed for the visitors to wash their hands and feet before entering the temple by the management of the Kesoram Cement Factory.

Now the Shiva Lingam is popularly known as Bugga Ramaswamy temple because of its proximity to the spring. In the month of Shravana masam (September) as well as during the period of Mahashivaratri, thousands of devotees from all corners of the district throng the temple to offer prayers to the Lord shiva.

Devotees spend the whole day here and cook their meals and eat before leaving this place. Every devotee drinks the spring’s water and takes bath as it is believed that the water possesses medical properties. It is also believed that the water of the spring keeps evil spirits at bay. Another interesting thing is that the people of the district in general and sounding villages in particular name their children as Ramaswami which is another name for Lord Shiva.

Tourists and students of geography from far of places visit the area. But what is sad that neither the Endowment department nor the State government could provide a pucca road to the temple.

But on the request of devotees, the management of Kesoram Cement and mandal prajaparishad of Ramagundam jointly laid a soil road from Rajiv Rahadari at a cost of Rs 70.000. But during the rainy season, it is very difficult to reach the temple. Local representatives urged the government to develop this spring and also temple as tourist spot by providing facilities. A regular visitor Ch Shyamsunder Rao of Godavarikahani said that it is better if the temple is taken over by the endowment department for better management.

Among the prominent visitors to offer prayers regularly at the temple are chairman of B K Birla Group of Industries Basanth Kumar Birla.
